Preparations have begun for the National Icelandic Horse Competition Landsmót 2022 which will be held 4-10. July 2022 at Rangárbakkar in Hella.
As everyone knows, the tournament was supposed to take place in 2020 but was postponed due to COVID-19, like most of the events last year. Preparations had already come a long way when the tournament was postponed, therefore preparations for Landsmót 2022 are well on their way.
Landsmót 2022 at Hella will be the 24th in a row. From the beginning, since Landsmót was first held at Þingvellir, the tournament has been one of the largest sporting events in the country.
The tournament has grown enormously in scope, especially in terms of the competition part and the number of horses. It is interesting, however, that at the first Landsmót for horsemen at Þingvellir in 1950, about 10,000 guests attended the tournament. An attendance record was set at Rangárbakkar in 2008, where nearly 14,000 people gathered.
The tournament is held by Rangárbakkar, the national stadium of the Icelandic horse ehf.
